The Kamikaze is the original
mountain biking downhill that
changed everything back in the mid
1980's. Now a part of the mammoth
mountain bike park, it was the early
races that got everyone excited
about the future of Mountain Biking
on Mammoth Mtn and across the entire
west.
Today 25 years later the
Kamikaze is ridden by many everyday
of the summer. Racing continues once
a summer via the local VC Mtn Bike
Racing Series. (see video below)
And for 2009, the California Cup
heads to Mammoth in September and
the Kamikaze is on the race schedule
once again.
Looking at the Kamikaze its
course it is nothing but a 3+ mile
long access road to the top of
mammoth mountain. The top elevation
is at 11053 feet and is accessed by
mammoth mountain ski areas gondola
system.
The Kamikaze might only be an
access road, but with a little
knowledge, the right line is going
to get you moving at some very fast
speeds in excess of 65 mph. One
mistake and its pain and disaster on
Mammoth's Kamikaze. Hard Core
downhillers will love lapping this
fast run via the gondola.
Take Ride down the
Kamikaze in this killer video below.
