3-21-2010 - 8am

Spring has arrived in the Eastern Sierra and Mammoth Lakes. We had great weather on Saturday, with a high near 50 at 8000 feet.

Today Sunday is going to be cooler with some gusty winds. A weak system is sitting off the coast and that will be our wind kicker. We had winds up to 47 up top early this am.

You can also expect some high clouds at times as you can see on the satellite image to the right.

Highs look to be near 44 on Sunday and 40 Monday/ Tuesday at the Main Lodge.  Expect highs 4-7 degrees warmer in town. Night time lows will be in the 20s.

This Spring weather in the Mammoth Lakes area and up on Mammoth Mountain will continue for at least a week and possibly longer. Things will be cooler the next few days then they have been over the weekend with highs around 40/44. Weather models become very unreliable as we move into the spring season.  So we will stick with an outlook in a 7-10 day time period.

The extended outlook offers us up some possible spring snow late in the period.  This could take place as early as the day 8/9 period. For now we will wait and see before getting excited about any more powder days.  We have seen winters in the past just turn off in mid march, so lets pray this in not one of those years.

Enjoy today's weather here in the Mammoth Lakes and Eastern Sierra areas.

FYI: Weather Guy just pointed out to us that we just had 3 straight 100 inches snowfall months.  The last time that happened was in 92-93.  Nice...

Weather & Video Links

If you are a weather nut like The Snowman and friends you try to take in as much content as you can.  Below are some links to some great Video Content.  The web is moving forward fast and video is in.  Try the links below, you will learn much!

Over the last 20+ years, My Snow Bum Friends and I have enjoyed learning about the weather.  It all started with Doctor George Fishback from ABC Channel 7.  We would wait up till 11:20 every night in the winter and fall to hear the weather news and talk.

When we moved to Mammoth in 1985 Don Marcelin was the man.  He knew more about local weather then anyone I had ever met.  Around that time Howard Sheckter started the Famous Snow Phone 760-934-snow.  When you called in, you got a  detailed discussion on Mammoth Mountains weather and snowfall forecast.

Now it's 2010 and we have hundreds of weather links and detailed discussion Blogs.  The best part is most of it you can get access to for free.   I still think the best two forecasts are The Window Cast and The Vermont Weather Stick.  You will never go wrong with those!
